Debra is an educator and consultant whose life work has been the research of therapeutic applications of creativity. Her research resulted in the development of The Dignity Project, a unique program for teachers and child advocates with an emphasis on self-awareness. For eighteen years, Debra conducted workshops and retreats on creativity and intuition. She founded and directed Four Winds Institute in 1987, a retreat center in the mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has been a consultant to Stanford Research Institute, The Institute of Noetic Sciences, and to various corporations and government agencies. She has also worked as a YMCA camp director and as a college instructor in creative writing and journalism.
Contributions and projects:
- Moderator of 1997 Peace Summit on Children's Rights in Vienna, Austria
- Board of Counselors of the CIVITAS Initiative, providing scholarships and interdisciplinary education in child abuse at Chicago Loyola Law School, Baylor College of Medicine and University of Michigan School of Social Work
- Executive producer of Emmy nominated ABC network special, About Us: The Dignity of Children, with video sales in three languages
- Author of The Dignity of Children, identifying the universal needs of children; Things Are Not As They Seem, Debra's story of reclaiming dignity by listening to the knowing voice within; Freedom: Voice of the Mustang
- Founder of Dignity Messengers, a communications company
